DIRECTOR OF COACHING
As Director of
Coaching at Swords Celtic, I have been handed the task of raising the standards
of coaching within the club. For too many years now, the best of our players
have moved on to so called bigger and better clubs. Our goal is to reverse this
trend by providing first class coaching facilities and first class coaching by
fully qualified coaches, allowing our players and teams to progress to the
highest standards of football available in Ireland and hopefully further a field
in years to come.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To date our approach has been simple. Firstly we went about ensuring we had
appropriate training facilities and equipment and the new all weather training
facility has been a fantastic asset over the last two years, providing us with
one of the best soccer facilities in north county Dublin.
Our
next objective was to provide our coaches with access to FAI coaching courses
and providing in house coaching sessions for our coaches. These coaching
sessions are carried out on a regular basis and are always well attended by club
coaches. In addition to this we have appointed two professional coaches who in
turn, coach and supervise our team coaches, ensuring all our coaches are
providing appropriate coaching suitable to the level at which their players are
playing at. We have also recently appointed a Goalkeeping coach, who each week
puts out goalkeepers through their paces. It’s early days yet but already the
improvement in the level of our ‘keepers’ can be seen at all age groups.
Starting with our Pee
Wee academy, and moving up to our 7 & 11 a Side teams, the steady improvement of
our players and teams over the past few years has been superb. This has enabled
us to enter some of our teams into DDSL football, a goal we set ourselves a
couple of years ago. So far we have been making good progress, with most teams
holding their own last season. Our target is to have home grown teams entered
into DDSL Premier divisions, a goal which many club officials believe is just
around the corner.
The experience and qualifications of our professional coaches has been
invaluable in raising the standards of coaching within the club. The efforts of
all our coaches cannot be underestimated and their time and dedication is a
credit to each and every one of them. Our younger coaches also deserve credit,
still playing Schoolboy football yet already coaching with our Academy having
completed their FAI introductory courses. The future looks in good hands with
this sort of enthusiasm within the club. Having the coaching structure in place
to achieve our goals is something each and every member of our club can be proud
of and long may it continue.
VOLUNTEERS
Swords Celtic FC have
27 Schoolboy teams as well as our ‘Pee Wee’ Academy for 5 to 7 year olds. We are
constantly looking for qualified coaches or volunteers to help run our various
teams. All non qualified volunteers will be coached to FAI introductory level
and Level 1 standards, whichever is considered suitable to their level upon
joining the Club.
